Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an account? Where is my data stored? No account is needed. Your people, meetings, gifts, photos and voice notes are stored in the App on your iPhone. FriendsCalendar has no cloud sync of its own, so your diary does not appear on your other devices. Like other app data, it is included in your iPhone backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup).

How do I import friends from Contacts? Open the People tab, tap + and choose Import from Contacts, or tap Import on the first screen. In the iOS contact picker, select the people you want and tap Done. FriendsCalendar copies each person's name, nickname and birthday, where present. The App does not get access to your whole address book, and people you have already imported are skipped.

How do birthday reminders work? When you add a birthday to a person, reminders are on by default: one week before and on the day. To change them, open the person, tap Edit and adjust Remind me and the days under Reminders: 2 weeks, 1 week, 3, 2 or 1 day before, or on the day. Choose the time in Settings → Reminder time, and switch all birthday reminders on or off in Settings → Birthdays. Reminders are local notifications, so notifications for FriendsCalendar must also be allowed in iOS Settings → Notifications.

What are "Keep in touch" reminders? An optional notification when 30 days have passed since you last met someone you have recorded at least one meeting with. It is off by default; turn it on in Settings → Keep in touch. The People tab also shows a "Haven't seen in a while" section.

Why don't I see the AI suggestion button? AI suggestions use Apple Intelligence on your iPhone. The AI suggestion button appears in the meeting form only on iPhone models that support Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on and its model available in the App's language. Open Settings → AI suggestions to see the current status. The draft is created on your device, and your meeting changes only when you tap Apply to meeting.

How do I move my diary to a new iPhone? If you set up the new iPhone from a backup of the old one (iCloud Backup or a computer backup), the App's data comes with it. You can also use Settings → Export data to save a JSON file, then Settings → Import data on the new iPhone. Import adds missing records and leaves existing ones unchanged. The JSON file contains your people, meetings, gifts, places and tags, but not photos or voice notes.

How do I delete a meeting, a person or a gift? Swipe left on a meeting in Timeline or on a person in People and tap Delete, or use Delete meeting on a meeting's page. To delete a gift, open it and tap Delete gift. Deleting a meeting also deletes its photos and voice notes, and deleting a person also deletes their gifts. The App keeps a local deletion record on your iPhone until you delete the App. Deleting the App removes all of its data from your iPhone, although copies may remain in earlier device backups.

Why does the App ask for my location or microphone? Location is requested only when you tap Use current to set a meeting's place. The App gets your position once and looks up the place name with Apple Maps. The microphone is used only when you record a voice note for a meeting. Contacts and photos are chosen in the iOS pickers, so the App does not ask for access to your contacts or photo library.
